Andrea B. Maier, MD

Prof. Dr. Andrea B. Maier, MD is Oon Chiew Seng Professor in Medicine and Healthy Ageing, Founder of Chi Longevity, CMO at NU and one of the Longevity Science Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Board members.
Andrea’s research is driven by her passion to unravel ageing mechanisms and the interaction of ageing and age-related syndromes and diseases, which eventually leads to counteracting interventions. Her research group particularly focuses on sarcopenia and cellular senescence and their influence on age-related diseases. She also conducts several observational and intervention studies.

Apart from working at the National University of Singapore, she serves as a Professor of Gerontology at VU University Amsterdam, The Netherlands, a President of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Sarcopenia and Frailty Research and as an Honorary Professor of Medicine and Aged Care at the University of Melbourne, Australia. In February 2020, Andrea was appointed as an Elected Member of The Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities and in February 2021 as an Honorary Staff of the Royal Melbourne Hospital. She is also an Associate Editor of numerous international journals, such as Frontiers, the Gerontological Society of America, and she is on the Editorial Board of ICT&Health.

Andrea studied Medicine at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg and she holds an MD from the University of Lübeck.
